Catherine Zask :
“En direct is a journal on communication for the general public, put out by the University of Franche-Comté. Launched in the 80s, it is an innovative presentation of current research and university education intended for heads of companies, institutions and organizations in order to encourage exchange and collaboration. It was the first university initiative of its kind.
En direct has been publishing 6 500 copies a month since 1987. For the monthly, the layout (for which I created the typographic principle) is done by the university’s printing department.
En direct also puts out a special edition three times a year. I was in charge of designing these issues up until 2002, for which I was given a lot of freedom. Freedom that is precious and, I believe, strongly connected to thoroughness.
I started collaborating with the University of Franche-Comté in 1986. While the huge scope of work for the university’s visual identity and institutional communication, achieved with René Didi, lasted until 1993 (the ensemble was shown at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 1991), my work with Madeleine Lafaurie for the journal En direct lasted for 15 years.”
