Hoodoo, wash hand basin in enamelled Volvic lava
PYROLAVE in-house design
PYROLAVE specialises in converting Volvic lava, which it then markets to architects and decorators. The company aspires to becoming a force for suggestion by offering a contemporary range of products, in order to highlight the material's remarkable properties and to reach a customer base which is seeking exceptional products.
The innovative characteristic of the Hoodoo wash hand basin lies with the conversion of the material itself; the idea was to reveal the natural dimension of the stone, using it in its rough form, while taking support from the brand's signature: its enamelling skills which have earned its reputation worldwide. The range of colours and finishes is endless.
This research has lead to the creation of a surprising product with very gentle forms and a relaxing touch, with a very strong hint of volcanoes, erosion and rocks, and thence its name.
When design steps in: the design approach involved using the product to restranscribe the authenticity of this material, which comes from the volcanoes of Auvergne. By highlighting the close relationship between water and stone, a strong history emerges.
What about the environment? This is a natural material, extracted at Volvic with the greatest respect for the environment (Auvergne volcano natural park). The stone is extracted manually according to very strict extraction authorisation specifications. It is also a lasting product because it is extremely resistant and so will not deteriorate or need reworking.
